One way to integrate your art form is simply by having God's interest or the thought of him in mind while making or planning it.
Well, I think a lot of Christians have the misconception that we have to make "Christian art" in order to glorify God. But Colossians 3:17 tells us that "In whatever you do... do it in the name of (or, as a representative of) the Lord Jesus". Meaning we should seek to glorify Christ in our work, even if our work isn't necessarily Christian. So as Christian artists (whether we're illustrators, musicians, actors, writers, etc.) we don't necessarily have to make "Christian art": we can integrate our faith by representing the Christian worldview, upholding Godly moral standards, and not glorifying sin.
Excellent posting, Steven!
Right on target. :-)
I think in a way, you have to think whats effective about art and what is effective in Christianity and then combine them together. You just give qualities of both that seem well integrated. Working hard, never giving up, working together, etc. Those are both qualities that both art and Christians exhibit. as said by Steven.
There is also the creative quality. The bible mentions how God is our creator. From Isaiah 64:8 it says:
Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
And many of the biblical stories, are pretty creative. Especially when Ezekial describes his vision of heaven, or in Revelation in the end times.
Finally in art, there are good art, but those that are legendary. As artist you have the power to be an innovator as my history of illustration teacher said. And to be innovative, don't just know the foundations, but have an art touch a generation. You as an artist have the power to litteraly change's someone's thinking.
This is a main reason what Christian movies lack, raw actual and believable human emotions. Watch a movie that was considered good and watch Christian movie. All christian movies so far Ive seen are about sports or arguing the faith. Its missing the core of Christian faith, how Christ tells other to be honest, truthful and kindness, not be Pharisee and Saducees. There were a few horror films like remaining, and inaccurate films that were human emotion. But not a good balance of both. Christian films ought to practice making movies without any dialogue.
The only things I can think of that are the best of the best would probably be Prince of Eygpt, Future of Forestry, and Adam and Dog.
Future of forestry example:
Adam and Dog
